Rowers make a splash during second Surf Boat Pro at the Geraldton Surf Life Saving Club on the weekend

The Surf Boat Pro made its return to Geraldton waters for a second year, with competitors racing for the best times in the growing event. The Pro, which ran on Sunday September 24, had teams competing for a Perpetual trophy and a prize pool of $500 for the winning team. In the Surf Boat Pro’s second year, teams of five competed against each other, racing their boats through the surf in designated areas, trying to get the best time possible. Each crew has a sweep, the team leader that steers the boat, and four rowers who all work together to battle the waves and swells on the day. After the inaugural event last year, the Surf Boat Pro became officially embedded and will run every year. This years event saw teams from Coogee, Secret Harbour, Cottesloe and Mullaloo making the trip to Geraldton for the competition. The open division was taken out by the Geraldton team, led by sweep and event organiser Willow Williamson, with rowers Liam Privilege, Jacob Barker, Izak Geddes and Stu Clarke. Cottesloe took out second place in the division while Secret Harbour and Coogee were third. In the women’s division, it was Coogee that took out the win. Organisers hope the event attracts people into surf life saving clubs as the season is right around the corner. The Geraldton Surf Life Saving Club will be holding their registration day on October 15.
