Safety improvements on the Wandina intersection where a motorcyclist lost his life are not proceeding as early as thought.

Main Roads media manager Dean Roberts said the works at Brand Highway between Barrett Drive and Lockyer Drive had been delayed due to resourcing issues.

“Work is expected to commence in the coming weeks, with completion still expected in early-June 2021,” he said.

Motorcyclist Armando Trimocha Jr was killed in a fatal crash while exiting Barrett Drive in January last year, after another seven crashes at the site in the preceding five years.

Main Roads then made temporary modifications, and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti promised extensive remedial works expected to take three months.

They are to include a separate left-turning lane southbound off Brand Highway into Barrett Drive.

The intersection is to be widened, extending the dual southbound lanes on Brand Highway past Lockyer Road and moving the merge point past the Lockyer intersection.
