Sian Glenica Judith Joyce Calyun: 24yo woman to fight police assault charge after changing plea

A woman who pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer has changed her plea, and will face trial for the alleged attack on Geraldton Foreshore more than a year ago. The alleged assault on an officer who was 15 months into his Geraldton role, which resulted in a seven-stitch gash on his forehead and a swollen black eye, will go to trial after the accused changed her plea to not guilty. Sian Glenica Judith Joyce Calyun, 24, appeared on Thursday in Geraldton Magistrates Court where she was set to be sentenced. She previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a public officer, obstructing police and disorderly behaviour in public in March, but following negotiations, the magistrate granted an application to change her plea for the assault. Ms Calyun then pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault on then Sen. Const. Adam Kelly at Geraldton Foreshore on December 28, 2022. Mr Kelly claims the alleged attack was the final nail in the coffin which led him to end his career in the force. The case was adjourned until July 11. Police previously allege they were called to the foreshore youth centre after a group of about 20 people were involved in a brawl. When Mr Kelly restrained a 22-year-old man, police allege Ms Calyun kicked him in the head. Mr Kelly was treated in hospital for a 3cm laceration to the eyebrow and a fractured nose.
