In this week’s Snap & Chat, our chosen image depicts a pastime many people enjoy. This photo was taken by Max Johnson on March 29, at sundown on the beach near Geraldton’s Horizon Ball sculpture along the Beresford foreshore. Among many of the talking points during the week, here is a sample of some of our readers’ comments. Russell Gaskin posted on farmers’ prayers for rain: “Parents used to farm out that way many years ago. I’ve never seen it this dry for a long time. We used to wait till the first rains before seeding but machinery and farming practices have changed a lot since then. Hopefully there is rain soon.” Deb Clark posted about the council’s move to repossess the Mercantile Club building: “Since our family moved to Geraldton 13 years ago, we have seen so many positive changes to what was basically a derelict CBD. I’m really looking forward to how this lovely old building will be managed. We have some beautiful heritage here that deserves a lot of love.” Gemma Dalgleish posted about the police chopper in Geraldton patrolling for illegal off-road bike use. It also caught several shoplifters. “We need the chopper in Gero permanently to sort out the constant repeat crimes. Just need the courts to be harder on the offenders and back our police to make a difference. Thank you WA Police for all you try to do with the system against you.” Byron Taylor also posted about the police chopper operation: “We’re using a helicopter to catch shoplifters, really? Thought it could be put to better use, not for some low-level thievery.” Kerryn Grey posted about the approved development application to extend BCF complex next to Bunnings on North West Coastal Highway: “Great for the city, but that corner just keeps getting worse.”
