Snapshot in Time: Names sought for faces in 72-year-old tennis photograph

Tennis has been a popular and prominent sport in Geraldton for many decades. This photo from 1950 shows members of the Bluff Point Tennis Club, as it was then known, and those pictured wouldn’t look out at place at Wimbledon, all dressed in their whites. This image was provided courtesy of local history buff Stan Gratte. Geraldton Regional Library history staff are keen to put names to faces in this 72-year-old snapshot. They would love to hear from anyone who recognises people in this photo and can identify them. Two people have already been identified in the group — Joyce and Harley Criddle. Seven decades after this photo was taken, Geraldton’s tennis scene is still thriving with at least three clubs — Geraldton, Spalding Park and Tarcoola Park — as well as frequent competitions, open days and opportunities for junior players.
