Snapshot in Time: Throwback to 1980s when wharf drivers were at work in Geraldton

This week’s Snapshot in Time takes us back to around 1980 when wharf divers were at work, with a crowd watching them go about their business. Diving is a prominent business in Geraldton, and is also a big part of the tourism industry. While the main diving sites are thought to be out at the Abrolhos Islands, there are some areas worth checking out closer to home, such as at Point Moore, Shallow Reef, out near Drummond Cove and including the wrecks of the South Tomi and Mayhill. At Fishermen’s Wharf, there are some invertebrates and reef fish to check out, as well as soft coral and sponges that cover the pylons and sea bed, but the busy port means there’s a lot of traffic and the dive can be murky at the best of times.
