New solar powered lighting has been installed by the City of Greater Geraldton at the Point Moore carpark in a move aimed at reducing crime.

The three cyclone-rated light poles with 60W LED luminaries are located in the carpark next to the Geraldton Volunteer Marine Rescue Group.

The carpark features six free 24-hour parking bays for non-self-contained motorised camper vans and vehicles.

Mayor Shane Van Styn said the $15,000 lighting upgrade would help reduce antisocial behaviour in the area.

The light poles will be trialled over the next few months to see how well they withstand the City’s climate conditions before they’re considered for other sites.
