Spellers show off their vocabularies
More than 100 students from 12 schools attended the Midwest Spelling Bee recently at Allendale Primary School.
Deputy principal Jennifer Gadsby said the event was organised to help correct poor performance in vocabulary and writing.
“Our lowest recorded data in NAPLAN was vocabulary and writing and that’s a Statewide issue,” she said.
“One of our top priorities is improving these results.”
Students in year groups between 3 and 10 were tasked with spelling words, from “arm” to “hootenanny.”
Ms Gadsby said she hoped for a bigger turnout next year and congratulated staff for the event’s success.
“The collaboration between the schools has been outstanding and there’s been so many new friendships developed between the students,” she said.
