Spring Farm Fair spellbound with Geraldton photographer’s monkey magic

Geraldton photography hobbyist Luke Winter’s work has been recognised by the Spring Farm Fair, a smaller agricultural fair replacing the Perth Royal Show this year. Mr Winter works a fly-in fly-out job in the resource sector, but photography has been one of his passions since he designated himself the family photographer on holidays as a kid. “I was the pain in the bum, always the person lagging behind to take photos,” he said. Now a parent himself, he takes his daughter Ruby, 8, on regular holidays. “She’s my travel buddy. We’ve been going somewhere each year since she was three,” he said. He shot the photos he entered into the Spring Farm Fair while on their adventures abroad, taking one in New Zealand and two with some friendly monkeys they met in Japan. Because of COVID-19, travelling abroad is not an option but Mr Winter said he would still make time for adventures in the Mid West with his camera. “Kalbarri, Shark Bay, Greenough; there’s so many good spots,” he said. And although he will not be able to to see his photography displayed this year because of work commitments, he plans to apply again next year. “You’ve gotta do what you love,” he said.
