St Lawrence’s Mary Poppins Jr draws hundreds to Queens Park Theatre
St Lawrence’s Primary School is downsizing a family favourite with its upcoming production of Mary Poppins Jr.
Forty-seven students from the school’s performing arts extension program are taking Queens Park Theatre back to 1910, and Mary Poppins will need all of her magic and common sense to teach the Banks family how to value each other again.
With the performing arts program in only its third year, drama teacher and director Jenny Attrill does not have too many experienced actors to call on.
While they might be tough to direct at times, their excitement is palpable.
“It can be a challenge ... but they have a passion for it,” she said.
The Year 5 and 6 students have managed to draw 800 ticket sales, and with less than a week to go, they’re hoping to fill the auditorium for both of their performances on August 28.
The 1pm and 5pm performances will be about 120 minutes, including a short interval, and are suitable for all ages.
