State Budget 2025-26: Over $30m committed for key refurbishments and upgrades at two Geraldton high schools

The Cook Government has committed funds in the 2025-26 State Budget to deliver promises on key refurbishments and infrastructure upgrades at two Geraldton high schools.
Geraldton Senior High School received $8 million for classroom refurbishments, LED lighting and air-conditioning upgrades to create improved learning environments.
Meanwhile, the Government committed $23.5m to build a new gymnasium at Champion Bay SHS. The new gymnasium will be a multipurpose facility, accommodating indoor sports, performing arts and extracurricular activities. It will replace its ageing facility which its P&C members deemed not fit for purpose.
Champion Bay SHS principal Adam Blackmore said the school community was looking forward to the benefits that improved infrastructure would bring.
“In this, our 50th year as an educational institution on Highbury Street, we welcome the announcement of the funding for this important piece of community infrastructure,” he said.
“It will be a great asset to the school and the children of our local families.
“It will assist in the accommodation of the rising enrolments at the school and provide scope for the expansion of courses.
“The Champion Bay SHS community are very excited to see this project go ahead with one Year 12 student stating they would like to come back as a sports teacher once it is built.”
The local funds are part of the Government’s $219.7m investment to boost regional education.
