Suiside will hope to continue their winning ways on Saturday in round four for the Geraldton Softball season as the young side face-off against Martians again in a repeat of the previous round’s fixture. Coach Dylan Percy was understandably relieved that his team got their first run on the board. “I was pleased to see how the team kept their composure against such a tough opponent like Martians, who I believe are the team to beat this year,” the young coach said. “With such a strong competition in division one, every game count when fighting for top spot.” Martians will be down a couple of players because of the Pan Pacific tournament but will still be looking to take the top spot back. In women’s division one Pi’s aim for continued success in their double-header after their skilful win against Suiside in the previous round. Coach David Sutton said he was optimistic about the team’s chances going forward. “The team is starting to gel and are looking forward to this weekend’s double-header,” he said. Suiside also face a double-header taking on Rams as well as Pi’s and will need to tighten their defence, with mistakes costing them last round with multiple bases being stolen. Rams coach Dion Harrison was full of praise for all the team’s contributions so far this season. “Division one women’s has thrown up some different results so far and round four will be no different with Martians taking on a young Suiside and then backing it up against Pi’s then a big test for Pi’s as they take on the in-form Rams,” he said. “Stacey Dershow will play her first game for Rams as Pi’s will be looking for big games from Kylie Morgan and Janelle Phillips.” In division two, Batavia Blaze are back in action in the games after their byes last round. Both the women’s and men’s sides are taking on Suiside, with Suiside men looking for a repeat performance of their last round when they demolished Marlins 29-1. Suiside women should also be in high spirits after beating Marlins in their previous game, albeit with a smaller margin taking the game 7-2. Blaze men’s coach Adam Gilchrist said he was excited about the competitive nature of the division this year. “We are looking forward to our first rematch of the season against suicide in division two this weekend after going down by three runs, we hope to have another close game and it seems the middle order of the ladder will be tight this year from what I’ve seen,” he said. The other match-ups will see Rams Blue against Martians Black, Rams White versus Marlins. In the division two women’s games, Martians Black and Marlins both have double-headers as Martians take on Marlins and Pi’s with the Marlins also facing off against Rams.
