Kate Baldock’s winning Lower Primary Poetry entry in the Geraldton Regional Library’s 2016 Randolph Stow Young Writers’ Awards. Kate represents Geraldton Grammar School.

I will place in my box

The first bark of a dog

The last squeak of a clown’s nose

Four blue words spoken in Chinese

I will place in my box

the silver wing of a fairy

The horn of a unicorn

I will place in my box

a flock of horses flying in the blue sky

two birds eating grass in a luscious green field

My box is fashioned from diamonds and crystals and silver

With glitter on the lid and wishes in the corners.

Its hinges are diamond peal rings.

My box will float me away to a faraway place were the waves

are as perfect as rain drops. The clouds are as fluffy as pompoms.
