The Waifs announce national tour as 20th anniversary celebration of their first album, including Geraldton gig

It seems like just yesterday that The Waifs were releasing their seminal album Up All Night, and yet two decades on from 2003, the original independent folk heroes have announced their Up All Night 20th anniversary Australian tour. And local fans can rejoice, as The Waifs’ tour will grace the stage of Geraldton’s Queens Park Theatre on Saturday, September 16. Each show will feature the 1992 Albany-formed band playing the album which reached double-platinum certification in full, along with a selection of must-perform fan favourites. Recorded between Los Angeles and Melbourne, with Chris Thompson and Canadian producer Mark Howard, who previously worked alongside Bob Dylan, U2 and Neil Yong, Up All Night debuted at #3 on the ARIA charts. The album won four ARIA awards for best blues and roots album, best independent album, engineer of the year and producer of the year for Thompson. To mark the milestone, they are also releasing Up All Night on vinyl for the first time with a limited signed edition available as part of a VIP ticket package. Paying homage to their roots, the band is set to be joined by special guests and great friends along their Australian tour, each having had their own impact on The Waifs’ career over the years that escalated in 2002 with their breakthrough single, London Still. The single became a “heartfelt, plucked ode to missing home that resonated with every Australian that has ever found themselves in a far-flung, cold place somewhere across the globe,” Junkee said. The tour will feature Australian music heavyweights Missy Higgins, Josh Pyke, Mick Thomas and more as The Waifs’ supporting acts across the Eastern States. Liz Stringer will be the special guest for most of WA shows including Geraldton. The WA leg begins at Perth Concert Hall on September 2 before touring to Mandurah, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany, Margaret River, Bunbury, Geraldton and Broome.
