Top shooters from across the country travelled to Geraldton for the WA Pistol State Championships

All rounds were firing on the weekend in Geraldton with the city playing host to the Western Australian Pistol Association State Championships. The Mid West city proved to be a great host with the weather providing perfect conditions over September 20-22, with the sun shining and the Geraldton wind not too extreme for the sharpshooters. With a total of 61 nominations, and a few late withdrawals, it was the likely record number of competitors and record number of junior shooters competing at the club’s State championships. Shooters competed from master’s to D-grade, with a number of the country’s best and most highly regarded shooters making the trip to Geraldton. Geraldton Pistol Club (GPC) secretary David Miller said it was great to see the efforts from all the shooters over the weekend. “It was awesome to see so many really keen and dedicated junior shooters, also the two disabled athletes were exceptional competitors as were all of the great women and men shooters,” he said. “GPC for the limited number of entrants performed exceptionally well, with some well-earned reward.” With locals having solid performances, Miller praised the efforts of two of the club’s newest juniors and their performances. “Koen Ward, after only a very short time as a member, has shot a score of 474, breaking grade at his first-ever competition and winning the Junior Men’s Air Pistol,” he said. “Alby Mines after only a couple of months as a member, has shot a personal best score of 403 at his first-ever open, placing third in the Junior Men’s Air Pistol.” Winners Masters - Scott Anderson (550) A-grade - Graeme Nicholls (545) B-grade - Harper Floyd (507) C-grade - Bill Okely (509) D-grade - Matt Mitchell (491) Junior - Arvin Nair (504)
