Tour expects to announce event in Geraldton in first for Australia
The main professional windsurfing tour expects to announce that Geraldton will host an international windsurfing event next year.
The Professional Windsurfing Association said the area has world class beaches and has produced some of the finest athletes in the sport over the years, including reigning Mid West Sports Awards senior sportsperson of the year Jaeger Stone.
“To have an event there as part of the PWA World Championship Tour is not only highly justified, but long overdue,” the association told the Geraldton Guardian in an email.
“Such an event will not only bring the finest windsurfers in the world to Geraldton, but it will make the world aware of what Geraldton has to offer, while simultaneously giving the area the seal of approval as a world class windsurfing and vacation destination.”
“Although the value of Geraldton is well known by those of us lucky enough to work at the top level of the sport and to have spent time there, it is high time that the rest of the world found out quite how much the area has to offer for windsurfing enthusiasts.”
More to come.
