Trapped under her own 4WD

Imagine lying on a lonely roadside, your shoulder pinned down by a car wheel. This is where Geraldton nurse Joanna Moore found herself on the afternoon of January 17, on Edward Road, Narngulu. “I have never known pain like it and I have given birth,” she said. Luckily, Brendan Sekuloff had just finished driving a forklift at GNC Precast and thought he heard the sound of a distant scream. “I got off the forklift and started to jog down the driveway,” he said. “I saw this big silver four-wheel-drive with a lady under the back tyre so I broke into a sprint.” Mr Sekuloff said the next few seconds were “crazy bloody hectic”. “I could not move the car and she was screaming at me to reverse it off her,” he said. “I never want to do that again.” Mr Sekuloff said he was much relieved when two passing prison officers arrived by chance. “I was stressing out, I was bloody scared and they said they were prison officers and they knew first aid. “That put me at so much ease knowing there were three of us there.” Mr Sekuloff said he was “big on first aid” and had completed a refresher course just a year ago. “I always make sure I’m up to date on that,” he said. “I wanted to make sure it was ready in case a situation like this did happen, and having kids doubles the need for this knowledge.” Mrs Moore said no bones were broken and she was “incredibly grateful” to Mr Sekuloff. “If he hadn’t have come I would be dead,” she said. If that car had gone a few centimetres more it would have got to my airway.” Mrs Moore said she did not apply her handbrake before getting out of her car to take a photograph. “I saw an old camper van for sale on the opposite side of the road in this paddock and I have a friend who needed a camper van,” she said.
