Traumatised woman robbed by four teenage girls at Geraldton Christian festival speaks out after brazen attack

A woman who was brazenly attacked and robbed by four teenage girls at a Christian festival on the Geraldton foreshore claims she would be dead without her mobile phone. On Saturday, February 10 a woman in her 30s was walking near the One Vision event at Stow Gardens. At about 7.30pm, police say a group of four girls aged between 13 and 17 allegedly approached the woman, who was sitting on a bench near Sail Inn Snack Bar. The woman, who did not want to be identified for her personal safety, said a girl in the group asked what she was doing, before hitting her in the head and pulling her hair in attempt to take her belongings. Geraldton detectives claimed the woman was allegedly pulled to the ground and assaulted as the accused tried to take her handbag. Detectives said the group ran away with some of the victim’s personal items. St John WA attended and the woman was treated at the scene. On Sunday morning, the traumatised woman told the Geraldton Guardian she had bruises around her knees, a really painful head and cuts and scratches on her body. She was blatantly attacked in front of 100 people and they tried to take her handbag with her passport, cash and other items inside, she said. Her necklace and lanyard with keys to her car and business were allegedly stolen. “Two minutes ago I was speaking to my friends and another two minutes this happened to me,” she said. “I was so shocked.” The woman said she was yelling into her phone “hey Siri, hey Siri, call emergency contact” during the alleged assault. “Without my phone I would be dead right now,” she said. She said she was speaking out “not just for me, it’s for everyone else in the future”. “They don’t care about the law, they don’t care about anything.” Geraldton detectives charged a 17-year-old girl from Geraldton with aggravated robbery and she appeared in Geraldton Children’s Court via Perth Magistrates Court via video link on Sunday. She was remanded in custody and is next due to appear in Geraldton Children’s Court on Tuesday.
