The 20-year-old woman who died in a horror car crash in Geraldton last week has been remembered by her family as a “beautiful, caring soul” who had a bright future ahead of her.

Family and friends are mourning Abby Shiozaki, who died after the blue Holden Commodore she was a passenger in collided with a Toyota Prado LandCruiser at the intersection of Brand Highway and Endeavour Drive in Wandina around 9.30pm on Thursday, May 15.

A second passenger of the Commodore, a 16-year-old boy, received critical injuries and was transported to Royal Perth Hospital. Another 16-year-old boy, who was behind the wheel of the Commodore, and two men in the Prado — the 49-year-old driver and 47-year-old passenger — were uninjured.

The Shiozaki family set up a GoFundMe page in Abby’s memory, which has been flooded with donations. As of Wednesday morning, more than $20,000 has been donated in two days to help the family with funeral expenses and other related costs.

The family posted that “our beautiful Abby was tragically taken from us” and the “heartbreak and impact of this loss are unimaginable” for her mother, brother and entire family.

The family revealed this was not the first tragic loss they have endured, with the passing of Abby’s father three years ago.

On Tuesday, the family posted an update, saying they were “overwhelmed by the support”.

“From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank each and every one of you — whether you donated, shared kind words, or simply kept us in your thoughts. The support from friends, family, and strangers has been nothing short of incredible,” they wrote.

“Thanks to your generosity, we’ve been able to ease the financial stress surrounding the costs for our Abby’s funeral, allowing us to focus on grieving and healing as a family.”

The family, who say they are “grateful for every act of kindness”, will be closing donations on Saturday.
