Amid grand final preparation, some of the Geraldton Buccaneers’ best have been chosen for the NBL1 West All-Star team that will face the Perth Wildcats later this month. The team, made up of the league’s best players, includes two Buccaneers — NBL1 West first team player and Buccs gun Malik Meunier and Zac Gattorna, the Buccs’ star newcomer who has made a big impact during his first season. Along with Meunier and Gattorna, Buccs’ coach Dayle Joseph will be on the staff as an assistant coach for the all-stars team, coming off his second straight NBL1 West coach of the year award. As part of their preseason, the Wildcats will play the all-stars team in two matches. Meunier said the selection came as a shock but the grand final came first. “It felt good, I’m kind of lost for words, when I found out I was a bit happy, bit shocked,” he said. “I’ll just try and get through this weekend and go from there, just hopefully be ready to play and we’ll play well.” The all-stars team will go up against the Wildcats on August 25 and 27.
