Two Geraldton men charged after scooter rider run off the road

Police allege a man riding a motorised scooter was run off the road in Spalding and assaulted as two men tried to steal the scooter. Acting Det-Sen. Sgt Marc O’Neill said the incident happened about 6pm last Thursday, as the 31-year-old Beresford man was travelling along Nixon Road. Police will allege a Holden Astra hatchback came alongside the scooter and ran the man off the road. Two men then allegedly got out of the car, threw the man on the ground and assaulted him. Det-Sen. Sgt O’Neill said there was a struggle with the scooter rider when one of the men tried to start the scooter and he was assaulted again. The man’s scooter key was then allegedly stolen and his attackers left in their car. Det-Sen. Sgt O’Neill said police would allege the victim and his assailants were known to each other. A 23-year-old Beresford man and a 34-year-old Geraldton man have since been charged with aggravated robbery and remanded in custody to face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on October 1. A Northampton man has been charged after he allegedly brandished a starter pistol while talking to front counter staff at the Geraldton council office. Police will allege the 68-year-old had his finger on the trigger and waved the object around when he went to the office last Thursday morning. He has been charged with being armed in a way to may cause fear and will face Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on October 8.
