Two Geraldton police officers allegedly assaulted while arresting man at Bluff Point shopping centre

Two police officers were allegedly assaulted at a Bluff Point shopping centre earlier this week. Police say officers attended the Chapman Road shopping centre about 2pm on Monday following reports of a disturbance. When they arrived at the scene, officers arrested a 41-year-old woman. Police allege a 39-year-old man became verbally abusive towards the officers and was arrested. The man allegedly assaulted the two officers. He was charged with two counts each of assaulting a public officer and disorderly behaviour in a public place. He is next due in Geraldton Magistrates Court on June 1. The 41-year-old woman was charged with breach of bail and appeared in court earlier this week. It also emerged this week that 13 officers in the Mid West-Gascoyne police district had been assaulted on the job in the first three months of this year, as the rate of attacks against cops locally and across WA continue to rise.
