Two men charged after Geraldton police seize cannabis from under car bonnet in Tarcoola Beach

Geraldton police seized almost 400g of cannabis from under a car bonnet after it was stopped during early morning patrols on Friday. Acting officer in charge Sen. Sgt Nathan Johansen said police were patrolling Tarcoola Beach when they saw a white Subaru wagon on the move at 4.10am. Police stopped the vehicle on the corner of Glendinning and Watterson roads and searched it. Sen. Sgt Johansen said police found a bag containing 386g of cannabis and a set of scales under the bonnet in the engine bay. He said the two accused, aged in their 20s, who were travelling inside the car were known to police. A 24-year-old man has been charged with possession with intent to sell or supply and the alleged passenger, a 22-year-old man, has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug. The 24-year-old was released on bail to appear in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday, January 19. The 22-year-old was summonsed to court, with a date to be advised. Sen. Sgt Johansen said it was a “good effort” by patrols monitoring the area, who stopped the vehicle which was active at an abnormal time. “Tarcoola Beach was an area in the past susceptible to burglaries last year. Although we haven’t had any recently, police are maintaining a presence in the area,” he said. “It’s unusual to see vehicles driving at that time of night.”
