Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma are safe from relegation and feeling comfortable heading into the final rounds

A win against Woodvale has saved La Fiamma from any worries of relegation and lets them play the rest of the season without the stress of dropping a division hanging over the team. The Reds season outlook has improved drastically in the past three weeks, starting with the Murdoch game and the massive win they got against Joondanna. They went to the bottom team in the league Woodvale and got a 4-1 win last Sunday, while the game seemed like it would be easy, the Reds were cautious going in, as they have had trouble against the side before. La Fiamma player Hayden Boffey said the whole team stepped up in the win. “It’s usually been a pretty strange side I guess, haven’t really got the greatest results against Woodvale before, so it’s good to get a result against them this time around,” he said. “I think we all did pretty well. . . Tommy (Mitic) did well, Athallah (Aman) did really well at right back, and Josh (Rodrigo) around the midfield did quite well.” The win has given La Fiamma enough points to make them safe from relegation, which has lifted a weight off the team’s shoulders. “Definitely good feeling, going into the last few games now hoping to get as many points as you can” Boffey said. One of the biggest issues in the Reds early struggles was their lacking defensive pressure. The side would let early goals through and couldn’t come back, but a shift in structure and trying new players down back has paid off for the team in recent weeks. “It’s been really good, especially the last few games against Murdoch…and Joondanna as well, it’s been very solid,” Boffey said. “It definitely gives us a lot more confidence, going forward and knowing that you’ve got four or five guys in the back that can keep it one, or not even let the opposition score. Scoring first is the ideal plan for most teams, but Boffey said that it was crucial against their competition to grab an early lead. “So I think getting that fast start back into this week will be a very big positive,” he said. “Especially in this league, it’s really important. I think a lot of teams like to start fast and get a goal, then just relax. “It will be important to keep the pressure on, and get a few goals at the start.” La Fiamma will be on the road for the second last game of the season, when they face off against Subiaco at Rosalie Park on Sunday, September 17, with kick-off at 3pm.
