Geraldton detectives have appealed for anyone with information to come forward following a suspicious vehicle fire in Karloo earlier this month. The fire was reported at 11.10pm on Friday, November 6, in scrubland just off Aaron Close in Karloo. The fire was extinguished before midnight but Geraldton firefighters estimated it caused $3000 in damage to the vehicle. A witness, who asked to not be named, told the Guardian the car was destroyed during the fire and they heard what sounded like an explosion. “It was really scary,” the witness said. “The firefighters and police handled the situation really well. I don’t know what would have happened if they didn't get (there) in time.” Detectives opened an investigation into the incident after the white utility vehicle was linked to one stolen earlier the same night from Geraldton Port. A spokesperson for the Mid West Ports Authority confirmed the company had been notified by police the vehicle was found in Karloo. “Mid West Ports Authority confirms a company utility was stolen from its premises... and has received advice that it was later found abandoned,” the spokesperson said. A WA police spokesperson said police would continue to investigate. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
