West Coast coming to Geraldton after launching Statewide talent search for the next AFLW star

West Coast are on the hunt for their next AFLW star with the Eagles coming to Geraldton to scout the top women’s talent in the region. With new coach AFLW legend Daisy Pearce at the helm, the Eagles are now looking for new blood as they look to lift themselves out of the bottom end of the ladder. They are casting the net far and wide travelling around the State’s football hotspots to unearth raw talent and will be hosting a two-hour session at Wonthella Oval on February 19. Academies coordinator Chad Morrison said the improvement in the skill of the women’s game had grown exponentially since their first search in 2018. “The level of development with the girls over the last few years is really exciting; every time we do a talent search it seems to just get better and better,” he said. “It’s important to engage with all our regions and give these girls the opportunity to do the testing and be part of the talent search process, to see where they’re at as a footballer and to also connect them back to our club in Perth. “There are so many skills in a variety of sports that can translate to football and you never know where the process may lead. We’ve had some fantastic successes with these talent searches in previous years so come down, give it a go and have some fun.” As well as West Coast development and community staff, past players have attended other camps though it is not clear at this stage who will be in Geraldton. Coach of the women’s Mid West development squad Nathan Johansen said it was good to see AFL clubs making the effort to explore the regions. “I will be encouraging our development squad girls to register and head down on the 19th,” he said. “The Mid West region has such a great history of developing very talented sportswomen so it’s crucial for the AFLW clubs to be up here and engaging with the girls. “I think it is fantastic that the West Coast Eagles are getting out to the regions in an attempt to unearth the next talented female footballer.” Those interested in attending the session will need to register their interest with the Eagles here at https://tradablebits.com/tb_app/472985.
