What I See with Peter Fiorenza: Narrowing down my dream dinner party to three gave me food for thought

The other day I was listening to the radio on the way to work. The breakfast announcer was posing the question: “If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would it be?” Some listeners nominated interesting people like David Attenborough and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while others suggested Michelle Obama and the Queen. I would like to be a little more ambitious and invite three people around for a meal and just ponder how the conversation would develop. Nobody would be surprised that my first guest — knowing I’m a tennis tragic — would be none other than tennis ace, Rafael Nadal. But the other two, well, I really had to think about it. Eventually, I narrowed it down to Caroline Kennedy and Bishop Justin Bianchini. I have always been fascinated with the Kennedy family. The tragic assassination of JFK in 1963, his brother Robert’s assassination in 1968 and the chronicled lives of his widow Jackie (later Onassis) and son, John Jr. Recently, Caroline Kennedy — the only surviving child of the slain president — was appointed US Ambassador to Australia. I would just love to have the opportunity to serve her up my very own special chicken cacciatore and I’m sure being an ambassador and all, Caroline would also be a good conversationalist. It would be great to get her take on both her father and her mum, who were both such icons in their own right, and I reckon she’d get on with Rafa, too. The final coveted position at my dinner table goes to Justin Bianchini, the former Catholic Bishop of Geraldton. Bishop Justin is one of the most affable people I know. The man can walk into any room and strike up a conversation with anyone about anything. He is the sort of person who makes you feel special when he chats to you — someone who always shows that he is genuinely interested. And I know he would definitely add to the Italian flavour. The bishop has also been known to belt out his own impressive rendition of That’s Amore. Well, what do you think? I think it would be a fantastic combination of good sportsmanship, diplomacy and lots of laughs. And, of course ending the night with Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline would go down a treat.
