Wildcats skipper Damian Martin coup for Mid West sports

The talented and popular Damian Martin is heading to Geraldton. But the Wildcats captain isn’t suiting up for the Buccaneers. Martin, 36, will be the keynote speaker at a forum for the Mid West sporting fraternity on Friday, October 16. It is a coup for the Mid West Sports Federation, which has announced its annual awards will be cancelled this year. Last year, former West Coast Eagle and Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddis was the key figure at a forum titled “Building a winning culture”. Few WA sportsmen, past and present, know more about winning and culture than Martin. After four years of college basketball in the US, Martin began his NBL career with the West Sydney Razorbacks in 2007. In 2009, he moved west, and has become a six-time NBL champion and six-time NBL Best Defensive Player. Martin is considered one of the league’s best defenders of all time. “This is great news and is a big bonus for us,” MWSF spokesperson Sue Patman said. “This will be a must-attend for committee members, development officers, administrators, coaches and all involved in volunteer and paid capacities in sport.”
