Exceptional nominations for the Geraldton Bowling Club’s new any combination pairs resulted in two greens being required, with 20 sides competing last Saturday.

The excellent conditions created some close encounters, with the formidable combination of Noel Davey and Terry Williamson clearly the class act on the green.

The duo amassed an impressive plus-30 shots from their two match victories to take the top prize, an impressive 13 shots clear of second-placed Lorraine Collett and Joe Criddle.

Club president Neil Exten and wife Lorraine remained undefeated to finish third, a shot ahead of Audrey Williamson and Benjo Brennan, with a further shot back to Minna Rasmussen and Warwick Glenister.

Recent weather events have made it difficult to program events however it’s hoped coming weeks will allow members to participate regularly on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Wonthella’s Saturday 20-odd scroungers bowlers compete for the weekly title to gain entry into the end of season King Scrounger final.

Garry Cripps set the standard with a quality display that not only resulted in victory but also returned the highest score of the day, 50, and collected two sixes along the way.

Multiple winner Kim Cross continues his stellar form, with a second placing and two sixes ahead of fellow finalists Keith Smith and Neville Bunter.

There were just 16 starters at Geraldton’s King Scroungers qualifying fixture.

Play continues next Friday afternoon with mixed scroungers at Wonthella and Geraldton.

Wonthella’s men’s King Scroungers will continue on Saturday afternoon, with Geraldton running a mixed drawn event from at 1.30pm.

Round seven of the Geraldton men’s scroungers will run from 1.30pm on Sunday, with Wonthella running a mixed event, and visitors welcome at both clubs.
