Woman given six-month order and community service after hitting two Geraldton police officers

A woman who hit two police officers and obstructed another has been handed a six-month community-based order. Junisha Wingo was charged with two counts of assaulting public officers and one of obstructing a public officer after a confrontation in Geraldton on December 29. Police had told Wingo and a group of people to move along due to public drinking. When police attempted to arrest another person, Wingo hit the two officers with an empty water bottle. She also attempted to obstruct an officer by standing between them and a person they were attempting to apprehend Wingo has a previous history of assaulting officers, although not recently. Her lawyer said she “saw red” and knew she had made the wrong decision. Wingo was given a six-month order with 40 hours of community service required. She was also given a suspended fine of $500.
