A 34-year-old accused of rupturing the eyeball of his partner with a broom has been refused bail in court.

Ronald Michael Martin appeared via video-link in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court last week to apply for bail.

At an earlier appearance he pleaded guilty to breaching a violence restraining order and not guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Police allege that Martin on December 14 struck the victim with a broom.

The impact allegedly caused her eyeball to rupture and fractures to the eye socket, causing her to lose the eye.

Martin made a bail application to visit his very ill mother but was refused by Magistrate Donna Webb.

He will appear on August 11 for a trial listing hearing.
