Woman threatened Geraldton pub patron with knives, court told

A woman was arrested minutes after storming a Geraldton pub armed with two kitchen knives and threatening a male patron, a court has been told. Police found the 47-year-old walking along Marine Terrace just 15 minutes after the incident at The Freemasons Hotel about 12.15pm on February 27. When they searched her backpack they found two medium-sized kitchen knives and a plastic smoking implement with traces of cannabis. Officers found a small amount of cannabis hidden beneath her left breast when she was searched at Geraldton Police Station. Carleen Joy Dann was charged with carrying an article with intent to cause fear, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dann did not appear at her first hearing in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on March 26 but was convicted in her absence. The court was told Dann and the victim had been in a relationship for about a week before the incident, which unfolded when Dann was walking along Marine Terrace and noticed him inside the pub. Magistrate Chris Miocevich fined Dann $1000 and ordered her to pay court costs of $225.90. He ordered that the cannabis, drug paraphernalia and knives be destroyed.
