Wonthella Gold have cemented themselves as the clear premiership favourites for the Batavia Bowling League women’s pennants title, after a successful first round when the squad claimed all five aggregates and dropped just three of 10 matches.

The Golds held all the aces in their away clash last Thursday against the talented but inconsistent Geraldton Blue, winning 4-0 (51-27) to sit comfortably atop the standings.

Margaret Kupschs, Lorraine Brand, Kerry Hagan and Di Knight led the way with a quality 28-12 result over Audrey Williamson, with Irene Travaskis.

Paula Cripps, Pat Rowell and Julie Clarke won 23-15 over Jill Adam’s team.

Northampton claimed all available four points and a 50-shot (68-18) aggregate against bottom-of-the-table Wonthella Maroon.

The defending pennant champions looked impressive on home soil with Dion Dellamotte, Lyn Joyce, Anne Labruyere and Julie Clarkson winning 34-10 against Val Exten and the side of Pauline Forrester, Eva Watson, Kaye Burton and Karen Drage beating Dorothy Stokes 34-8.

The undefeated Wonthella Gold along with Northampton, who have four wins and a loss, look to have a stranglehold on the season.
