Geraldton basketball product Alex Ducas has been selected to represent Australia at the 2018 Albert Schweitzer Tournament, which will be held in Germany later this month and early next month.

A biennial under-18 tournament which brings the finest junior basketball national teams together, Australia will do battle with Germany, Argentina, Israel and Japan in their pool.

Quadrio Earthmoving Geraldton Buccaneers head coach Ray Evans said he was delighted for Ducas and his family.

“It’s just a great achievement for a young kid who has worked really hard,” he said.

“His parents have put a lot of work into him as well and he has loved and embraced the work he has been doing for the last couple of years.

“I know last year Maurice Barrow spent a lot of time with him in the gym and shooting as well.

“Alex has really embraced everyone around him and absorbed a lot of things from a lot of different people over the last couple of years and it is full credit to him and his work ethic.

“I’m sure he is going to go a long way in basketball.”
