Youthful spirit keeps Ken’s dream alive

Ken Harris is one of the Mid West’s brightest up-and-coming tennis stars. And at age 83 years, he says he’s still got time to reach his dream of making an Australian side. The Geraldton Tennis Club patron, pictured, reckons the big day might come at the Tennis Seniors Australia national titles in 2022. He said with the 2021 nationals cancelled, the next big tournament would be the State titles next spring. He was already looking to get into shape for a tilt at the podium after a hand injury from working in sheep yards and keyhole surgery for an eye problem kept him out of action most of last year. If that goes well, a shot at selection for the Aussie over-85s senior tennis side could follow. “I was close (to a national team spot), but I never quite made it,” Harris said. “You never know. “There’s a group 85 and over. “It might happen. “I’m going to try out (a) couple of serve practices with nobody looking — those couple of injuries put me out for the year. “I’m looking forward to getting back into it.”
