Yuna PS and Yuna Tennis Club to benefit from Community Use of School Sporting Facilities grants program

Yuna Primary School and the local tennis club are among the first recipients of the State Government’s Community Use of School Sporting Facilities grants program. The Government announced the first round of recipients set to benefit from the $10 million grants scheme, which encourages partnerships between schools and community sporting groups to better use existing sporting facilities. In total so far, $1.5m in grants have been awarded to 44 schools across eight different sporting codes, providing upgrades for local facilities, equipment and school resources. In the Mid West, the only beneficiary in the first round is Yuna Primary School and Yuna Tennis Club, with upgrades to the hardcourt surface. The amount of money received for the Yuna project was unspecified. Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said: “We’re proud to be supporting local schools and sports clubs across Western Australia, and these upgrades will ensure our communities are set up for sporting success in the future.” Geraldton MLA Kirrilee Warr, and former Chapman Valley Shire president, welcomed the funding, saying both the school and tennis club played important roles in the community. “Strengthening local community partnerships with schools provides benefits to local people and their health, as well as positive education outcomes,” she said.
