Zayne Johnny Demascio-Delich and Max Chibbett Davey charged over alleged Geraldton Hotel coward punch

Two men have been charged by police over an alleged coward punch incident outside a Geraldton pub last month — fleeing the scene and leaving the man unconscious on the road. Police have accused Zayne Johnny Demascio-Delich, 21, and Max Chibbett Davey, 19, of punching a man once each following an argument at the Geraldton Hotel just after midnight on March 13. The pair appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where prosecutor Sgt Paul Birkinshaw outlined the case against them and said the alleged incident was caught on CCTV footage. He told the court the three men were having a “verbal altercation” outside the hotel before Mr Davey allegedly stepped forward and punched the man to the head. He stumbled back and was allegedly met with another punch to the side of the head by Mr Demascio-Delich, which caused him to “fall to the ground unconscious”. Sgt Birkinshaw said police believed the pair didn’t stop to render assistance and fled the scene on foot. The unconscious man was later taken to Geraldton Hospital where he regained consciousness. “The complainant suffered bruising and swelling to his face and grazing to the back of his head,” Sgt Birkinshaw added. The two men were charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and disorderly behaviour, and have yet to enter pleas. Both men are on a $500 personal bail with conditions not to contact, approach or come within 50m of their alleged victim. They will next appear in the same court on April 1.
