Zeico Burt Stanley Cameron: Alleged pensioner burglary driver back in court over breach of home detention

An 18-year-old accused of being the driver during an armed robbery at a pensioner’s home in Wandina has breached his home detention bail by smoking cannabis. Zeico Burt Stanley Cameron, 18, appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court from custody for a bail revocation after he was granted home detention bail on February 12. The court was told Mr Cameron breached his bail conditions after returning a positive result to cannabis on Wednesday, March 6. Mr Cameron is accused of being the driver during an armed robbery at a 76-year-old and 80-year-old’s Wandina home on Sunday, January 28. It is alleged that about 4am, four co-accused entered the home armed with an axe and machete. One of the accused allegedly yelled at the pensioners saying “give me your money”, while another told them “I’ve got a machete”, the court was told. The couple handed over about $350 cash. Mr Cameron is yet to enter pleas to aggravated armed robbery and aggravated home burglary, as well as stealing a motor vehicle. He pleaded guilty to no authority to drive and was handed a $300 fine and a three-month licence suspension. Police prosecutor Sgt Carey Owen said Mr Cameron was aware the other accused were armed and had told them not to take weapons inside the house, but the request was ignored. Defence counsel Veronica Randall said the 18-year-old accepted he used cannabis because it helps him sleep, and requested that his bail be renewed. Magistrate Matthew Walton said the alleged incident was at the higher end of aggravated robbery and burglary offences. “He continued to ingest cannabis knowing he would be tested,” he said. Mr Walton said he was minded not to grant bail, which would remand Mr Cameron in custody until May. But he decided to grant bail instead due to Mr Cameron’s young age and it being his first breach. Mr Cameron is next due to appear on Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 16.
