Public toilets at the Kojonup Sporting Complex have been closed until further notice after a rubbish bin was deliberately set alight inside the bathrooms.
The fire occurred at about 9.40am on Thursday with Shire of Kojonup staff responding quickly to contain the blaze before it could cause significant damage to the facility.
Kojonup police were notified of the fire through the shire and found a small fire had been lit in a bin inside the female toilets at the complex on Benn Parade.
Police said minor damage was caused to the bin and surrounding area, and are treating the incident as suspicious.
In a social media post on Thursday, the shire expressed disappointment that the incident had affected a facility provided for the community.
“We are disappointed that this incident has affected a facility provided for the benefit of our community and ask everyone to respect and look after public facilities,” they said.
Police and the Shire of Kojonup are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the fire to come forward.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers through their website or on 1800 333 000.
