Mae Rah Htoo: Katanning woman pleads not guilty to careless driving charges over Boxwood Hill double-fatal

A Katanning woman has indicated she will fight accusations that her careless driving caused the death of two people and injured a third in Jerramungup last year. Mae Rah Htoo, 51, pleaded not guilty to three counts of careless driving causing death, grievous bodily or bodily harm in Katanning Magistrates Court on Tuesday. She is accused of driving without due care and attention while behind the wheel of a Toyota HiLux that crashed in Boxwood Hill on September 2, 2023, 160km south-east of Katanning. The crash killed two people and injured two others, including Ms Htoo, who suffered life-threatening injuries. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell read the charges which a Karen interpreter translated with Ms Htoo speaking only to confirm she understood the translator and to plead not guilty to the three charges. The court set Ms Htoo’s trial for December 3 and extended her bail on existing conditions of a $700 personal undertaking.
