There’s still time to join this year’s Chevron City to Surf fun run to help raise funds for West Australians living with disabilities.

Almost 29,000 people — the highest number in a decade — turned out last year to raise more than $500,000 for genU, which will provide equipment and programs that improve accessibility and participation for people living with disabilities.

It is hoped even more participants this year will either walk, run, or roll in the 4km or 12km event on August 30, with both finishing up at the City Beach Oval.

The 7NEWS crew — including Ryan Daniels, Samantha Jolly, Angela Tsun, and Amelia Broun — will be among those lacing up their runners for the community celebration.

Jolly said she had lost count of the amount of times she had participated but she was looking forward to another year of walking for a good cause.

“I’ve done every category so I used to do the 12km. I’ve done a couple of half marathons and I even did the full marathon back in the day when it was an event and now I do the 4km with my kids,” she said.

“It’s great.”

For Broun, it will be her first time joining City to Surf so she was excited to help raise funds for the worthy cause.

“We do lots of stories in the lead-up about the people that this event benefits and where that money goes for the people who’ve been raising money,” she said.

“It just makes it even more special to know that you’re involved in all these worthy causes.”

A family fun carnival awaits those who cross the finish line with free carnival rides, fairy floss, live entertainment, food and drink vans, and merchandise.

Daniels will be running the 4km with his family again this year and said the kids were looking forward to the celebrations after.

“We ran last year and the kids did surprisingly well up the hills. They didn’t stop so we’re really proud of them,” he said.

“There’s games and food and rides, which is a great reward, particularly if you’re doing it with the family and you get to the end.

“You can stay there for hours and have heaps of fun.”

The 12km event begins right in the heart of the city while the 4km course will start from McLean Park in Floreat.

“There’s something really special about the City to Surf,” Tsun said.

“The whole community comes together and it’s just good to be out there doing something for the community but at the same time doing something for yourself.”
