Inside Hamilton Island’s newest boutique hotel The Sundays

The Sundays, a new boutique hotel, is set to open on Hamilton Island’s palm-fringed Catseye Beach next Autumn. Imagine al fresco dining at the hotel’s waters-edge restaurant and bar while enjoying views of Catseye Bay’s blue waters, or relaxing in a private cabana and taking a dip in the stunning pool in Hamilton Island’s tropical surroundings. The hotel, from the Hamilton Island Enterprises, the team behind the island’s luxury resort qualia, will offer 59 rooms with serene colour schemes and gentle sea breezes with the choice of a balcony or terrace overlooking the Coral Sea and the hotel’s gardens. The hotel has been created with families in mind, with interconnecting rooms available. Pete Brulisauer, CEO of Hamilton Island said the Sundays was inspired by “the essence of what makes a Sunday so special – relaxing, treasuring time and fostering connections with loved ones, and embracing nature.” “It will be a place where you can expect an extraordinary experience for all ages amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of the Whitsundays in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.” Mr Brulisauer said there had been a sharp increase in domestic travellers to the island in recent years, which is accessible in less than two and a half hours by direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. “We also continue to welcome back international travellers who want to experience the best Australia has to offer – like Whitehaven Beach and the iconic Heart Reef,” he said. Sandy Oatley, chairman of Hamilton Island Enterprises, said the organisation was responding to its guests’ requests for “more family focused boutique accommodation, in our ideal location.” “We remain focused on continuing to enhance Hamilton Island’s reputation as one of Australia’s most iconic holiday destinations,” he said. The Sundays, which is estimated at more than $30m, builds on the $400m already invested in infrastructure and facilities since Hamilton Island was acquired by the Oatley family in 2003. It is expected to provide employment for 100 full time equivalent hospitality workers in the Whitsundays region. Reservations will open this Spring.
