WA’s first lotto winner of 2022 has been unable to wrangle a week off work to celebrate the massive win.

The man claimed $1 million in the January 5 draw, but he’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to truly take it all in.

That’s because he is due to fly to work in the coming days, with his boss running a tight ship and holding him to his roster.

The division one winner said: “I called him up and asked if I could come up next week because I’ve won Lotto. He said ‘no mate’.

“I said ‘mate, I’ve just won a million dollars!’ He didn’t care.”

And it’s probably in his best interest to front up, with his plan to continue working even after the serious injection of cash.

It comes after a southern suburbs couple in their 60s also added $1 million to their retirement fund playing Saturday Lotto.

The ticket was picked up at Atwell Newsagency and was one of two division one-winning entries in WA for the weekend draw.

“I was just so shocked. I said to my husband I’ve got all six numbers,” the winner said.

His response: “Don’t be stupid. Show me the ticket.”

“I started crying and he started to pace about the house. We got no sleep that night,” she said.
