Bridgetown Cricket Club suffered its fifth straight loss at the hands of Forestry at the weekend, losing by 85 runs at Bridgetown Oval.

Forestry batted first and posted a strong target of 251 runs.

Dan Ward opened the batting for Forestry and controlled the game early with a 107-run partnership with Sam Vellios (37).

Ward batted deep into the innings and brought up a punishing century before being dismissed for 130.

Forestry’s Duncan Wells ensured the visitors pushed past a 250-run target with a well-compiled 50.

The Bridgetown bowlers toiled through the day, however poor fielding saw Forestry finish 7-251 after 45 overs.

Bridgetown’s best bowlers on the day were Peter Mason (2-37), Darcy Walsh (2-42) and Reece Waters.

Chasing a big score, Bridgetown’s Hugh Mitchell and Peter Mason started with a flurry of runs, however early wickets to Jared Johnston left Bridgetown 3-41 early in the game.

Mitchell continued to take the game on blasting his way to 88 off only 60 balls.

After Mitchell was dismissed, James McAlinden (20) batted well with the tail, however Bridgetown were bowled out for 166 runs in the 33rd over.

Jared Johnston finished with the best figures of 4-45 and was well supported by Connor Ipsen (2-33).

The 85-run victory gave Forestry its fourth win and secured them a place on top of the ladder.

Bridgetown will be searching for their first win when they take on Manjimup this Saturday and Forestry will head to Northcliffe on Sunday.
