This weekend, one of the Mid West’s biggest charity drives, the 25th Annual Rotary Club of Geraldton Radio Auction, will take over the airwaves at Spirit FM.
Listeners will be able to bid on more than 1200 separate items from 9am to 3.30pm Sunday.
Major items, such as a signed and framed 2014 Fremantle Dockers Guernsey or a full-day shipwreck tour of the Abrolhos Islands, down to more modest purchases, will be up for sale.
Proceeds will go to Mid West charities.
More than $30,000 was raised last year through the auction and went towards local charities and services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Foodbank and Local Volunteer Brigades.
Geraldton Rotary president Ross Baietta encouraged every-one in town to ring up and bid on the day to support what he said was a great cause.
“It’s a fantastic day. It brings the community together and obviously donations go to Rotary causes in the Mid West,” he said.
“We’re really appreciative of the community and businesses still getting behind us, even though there’s a bit of a downturn.”
Spirit FM station manager Jason McCarthy said his staff were always happy to donate their time and airwaves to get behind the project and described the day as Geraldton’s version of Telethon.
“It’s a great community project (and) we’re in awe of all the local businesses that contribute to it,” he said.
“You just get a real buzz and nice, warm fuzzy feeling out of doing it, so it’s great.”
