Drivers urged to avoid bushfire

A bushfire advice is in place for people travelling on Midlands Road or near Brand Highway between Midlands Road and Kailis Drive/Pye Road in Yadarino near Dongara.

The Brand Highway is closed to traffic in both directions from Midlands Road to Pye Road, Dongara.

A detour is in place for light vehicles only via Kailis Drive, George Street, Point Leander Drive and Moreton Terrace.

Another detour for heavy vehicles only is via Eneabba Three Springs Road and Midlands Road.

Main Roads is asking drivers to seek alternative routes or avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

The fire started near the intersection of Brand Highway and Ellery Road and there is a lot of smoke in the area.

It was first reported at 12.15pm and by 5pm 200ha had been burnt.

The fire is burning south of Midlands Road, on the eastern side of Brand Highway and moving slowly in a north easterly direction towards Midlands Road.
