Passionate volunteer is real strength behind club
Carol Young has been helping atMullewa Football Club for the past four years and currently undertakes just about every role at the club.
Ms Young was brought to the Saints through her close friend Ruth Simpson, whose sons play at the club.
She immediately got involved and started helping out behind the scenes.
“My great friend Ruth got me to the club and my boy started playing so I decided to really get involved,” Ms Young said.
“At the moment I’m the canteen manager and taken on the role of treasurer and secretary and anything else that needs doing, but I really enjoy it.”
Ms Young’s work week-in weekout stretches far beyond this however, with club great Mick Wall saying she does over and above what many others would.
“In absolute honesty, we’d be stuffed without her,” Wall said.
“Not only does she take on all those roles on the committee but, running the canteen, ordering food, doing clearances, it’s a massive ask.
“She’s the first to training and the last to leave as she fills water bottles for the boys, opens everything and closes it all at the end of the night.
“It’s actually been discussed lately what we can do to try to spread the work load, but she just keeps getting on and doing it.”
Ms Young is confident the Saints are in a good place at the moment and says new coach Josh Simpson has been really positive for the club, reflected in big numbers at training.
“The other night after training there was a few extra faces, so I went home and made up a list and we’ve had 52 players for pre-season,” she said.
“Josh has brought some professionalism to the club and the boys have really taken to him, so I’m pretty excited about this year.”
