Ragnarok is coming to Geraldton as the city is set to host its first MMA cage match later this month.

Valhalla MMA Geraldton will be debuting Geraldton’s first foray into mixed martial arts fighting with the Ragnarok Cage Fight at the La Fiamma Sporting Club on October 19.

Doors for the event swing open at 5pm, with fighters set to start swinging punches at 6pm for the top spot in this showcase event.

Club founder Waylon Prater said the event would show the community what the club had to offer.

“It’s very exciting because I know the event is going to be great,” he said.

“Half the people in town don’t really know what MMA is, so this is a chance to show them what we can do.”

Since opening in January last year, the club has been making a name for itself across the State competing in matches from Perth to Kalgoorlie.

Now ready to debut a showcase in his own hometown, Mr Prater said he was having to “pinch himself” to remind himself the event was really happening.

“This is my hometown and I haven’t been here for quite a long time, but now that I’m home, I have been able to bring something with me I have wanted to do for a very long time,” he said.

Mr Prater said his eyes were full of happy tears when the club returned from its first show in Perth.

It now has 40 members after its humble beginnings and Mr Prater said he was “dumbfounded” he was able to share his passion with the wider community.

“This sport is here for people in much more ways than one,” he said.

“It’s such a good club, and it isn’t just me running the show. It’s a really great bunch of people making this all happen.”
