Woman, child injured in vehicle crash while waiting to turn right to Glenfield Shopping Centre on Chapman Road

A woman and a child were lucky to escape serious injury in a three-car crash on a wet Chapman Road in Glenfield on Friday morning. The woman in her 30s and the child were taken to Geraldton Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Police say she was driving north of Chapman Road, with the child a passenger, when her sedan was rear-ended by a man driving a four-wheel-drive while she was waiting to turn right to Glenfield Shopping Centre about 8am. The collision in the rain caused significant damage to the sedan. Another woman in her 60s in a separate car was treated at the scene. A St John WA spokesperson said a call was made just after 8am and three ambulances attended the scene. The 60-year-old woman, who did not want to be named, recounted witnessing the 4WD colliding into the back of the sedan. “I was indicating to turn left into the shopping centre and she was indicating to turn right, and the guy behind her ... hit the back of her,” she said. She said the force of impact caused the rear-ended sedan to collide with her side on. “I don’t know what he was doing,” she said. Geraldton Police Station officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said the driver of the 4WD was on his way to the pits, and due to wet weather he had slid as he put the brakes on. “There were no serious injuries, just a bit shaken up from the crash,” he said. “The driver of the 4WD was very apologetic and devastated it happened.”
