Israel-Iran ceasefire: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi says ‘no agreement’ has been made

After Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, said “no agreement on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations” with Israel had been made, US President Donald Trump has doubled down on his claims a ceasefire has been made, saying Israel and Iran came to him asking for “peace”.

The discussion began when Mr Trump announced Israel and Iran had agreed to a “complete and total” ceasefire on Monday night (local time). However, Iran quickly brought that claim into question.

“As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around,” he wrote on X at around 4am Tehran time.

“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”

Although Mr Araghchi said there was no agreement, he left the door open, but only if Israel “stops its illegal aggression”.

“However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards,” he said.

“The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.”

In a second post on X, Mr Araghchi praised Iran’s armed forces.

“The military operations of our powerful Armed Forces to punish Israel for its aggression continued until the very last minute, at 4am.” he wrote.

“Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute.”

In the US President’s first comments about the ceasefire since Mr Araghchi’s statement, Mr Trump said Israel and Iran came to him and that they will now see “tremendous love, peace and prosperity”.

“Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, ‘PEACE’,” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I knew the time was NOW.

“The world, and the Middle East, are the real WINNERS!

“Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures.

“They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH.

“The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE.

“GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!”

Israel has not publicly commented on the ceasefire agreement yet.
